Lexington and Frankfort Railroad Company records, 1836-1859.

This collection of records from the Lexington and Frankfort Railroad, which succeeded the Lexington and Ohio Railroad in operation contains materials relating to a court judgment won by the Northern Bank of Kentucky against the Lexington and Frankfort Railroad. It also included records of the state's dividends from the railroad in the period 1854 to 1858, an 1856 stock certificate in the line, receipts, a printed copy of the railroad's fourth annual report to stockholders, dated 1852, and other miscellaneous papers. Some material pertaining to the line's predecessor, the Lexington and Ohio, is also present. It includes papers concerning the sale of the Lexington and Ohio to the state, and an 1836 receipt from the railroad's warehouse.

The Lexington and Ohio Railroad Company was incorporated in 1830 by a legislative charter setting its course as being from Lexington to one or more points on the Ohio River. The city of Louisville lobbied to be chosen as the western terminus of the line and raised funds for the railroad through private subscription and special tax levies.
